Where Can You Take HVAC Classes at Night in Texas?
Evening HVAC classes run in every major Texas metro. In Houston, Fortis College meets Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., and Tulsa Welding School runs a 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. session plus Saturdays. Collin College in Allen has an evening cohort at community college prices, and Southern Careers Institute in Austin, San Antonio and Harlingen runs evening sections Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m.
If you already work a full-time job, a daytime HVAC program is a non-starter. The good news: Texas has evening options in every big metro, and they aren’t limited to private schools. Several community colleges run night sections at in-district tuition, and a few schools add weekends.

Houston and the Gulf Coast
Houston has the most after-hours choices in the state.
Fortis College runs its HVAC diploma in two sessions, morning or evening, both Monday through Thursday. The evening session meets 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Graduates are required to pass the EPA certification exam. Its sister campus, Fortis Institute, runs the same schedule and says the program can be completed in as little as 40 to 48 weeks.
Tulsa Welding School in Houston has the latest finish of any program here: 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays. It also lists a Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. option, and theory portions run online. Its Refrigeration Technologies program takes 7 months, and it conferred 254 HVAC awards in 2024-25.
In Pasadena, Interactive College of Technology offers day and evening classes and lets students progress at their own pace. Every student completes a 135-hour externship with a partnering company.

Dallas-Fort Worth
Collin College is the standout for anyone who wants night classes at community college prices. All HVAC courses are taught at the Technical Campus in Allen, and in fall and spring you choose a morning, afternoon or evening section (Monday through Thursday) or a weekend section (Saturday and Sunday). It runs as a full-time cohort, so plan on a real commitment. Collin also conferred 202 HVAC awards in 2024-25, among the most of any Texas college.
Lincoln College of Technology in Grand Prairie runs its diploma and AAS in day, afternoon or evening sections, Monday through Thursday, with part of each week online. Hussmann’s TechX commercial refrigeration facility is on the same campus.
Miller-Motte College in Arlington runs its 800-clock-hour diploma on campus or hybrid, with day and evening options and rolling start dates. EPA 608 testing is built into the program.
Tulsa Welding School also has a Dallas-area campus in Irving, and the school lists morning, afternoon and evening sessions Monday through Friday, depending on campus.
San Antonio and Austin
Southern Careers Institute in San Antonio conferred 269 HVAC awards in 2024-25, the most in Texas. Its evening section meets Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m., and the 36-week diploma can be taken on campus or hybrid. Tuition covers exam fees for NCCER Core, NCCER Levels 1-3 and EPA 608 if you test within three months of finishing. The Austin campus runs the same schedule.
Austin Career Institute offers morning, evening or weekend classes for its 8-month certificate, and it teaches the program in both English and Spanish. That makes it one of the few Texas options for Spanish speakers who also need a flexible schedule.

Rio Grande Valley, El Paso and Central Texas
In the Valley, evening classes come from private career schools. Southern Careers Institute in Harlingen and Miller-Motte College in McAllen both list evening sections, as does South Texas Vocational Technical Institute in Brownsville. All run programs of 36 to 40 weeks.
Western Technical College in El Paso lets students choose day, afternoon or evening classes. Most courses are about 80% on campus and 20% online, and the associate degree ends with a 160-hour internship.
In Killeen, CyberTex Institute of Technology offers day and evening classes for its 900-clock-hour, 45-week program. Texas State Technical College in Waco offers day and night classes in person or hybrid, plus a performance-based format meant to fit around a student’s schedule.
North and East Texas
Texarkana College offers day or night classes for full-time and part-time students, and its program includes an EPA refrigerant recovery certification prep course. Vernon College runs day and evening classes at its Skills Training Center in Wichita Falls, and its Level 1 certificate takes about 32 weeks. Both charge community college tuition.
What to Expect From a Night Schedule
Evening programs cover the same material as day programs, so they take the same number of hours. The difference is how those hours are spread out. A few things to check before you enroll:
- How many nights a week. Fortis meets four nights; Southern Careers Institute meets five.
- How late. A 10:30 or 11:30 p.m. finish followed by an early shift is hard to sustain for most of a year.
- Whether labs are ever daytime-only. Ask directly. Some colleges schedule certain courses only in particular terms.
- When the next evening cohort starts. Collin runs cohorts, while Miller-Motte has rolling starts.
Also know which programs don’t have a night option, so you don’t waste an application. Central Texas College in Killeen lists program hours of Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Midland College’s free Skillpoint Alliance course is a five-week daytime course, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lamson Institute in San Antonio lists its diploma as full time and on site. If one of those is closest to you, a daytime program for a few months may still beat a year of late nights.
